822179 Sonderkapitel der Architekturtheorie
Sommersemester 2014 | Stand: 03.07.2014 | LV auf Merkliste setzenIsraeli cities, urbanism and urbanity
The objective of this seminar is to study and analyze the social, political and spatial characteristics of Israel cities, while dealing with wider historical and political processes. Theoretically the seminar will present the development of the modern city in Israel following wider sociological phenomenon such as capitalism, nationalism, and globalization. The theoretical discussion will refer to different traditional and critical theoretical texts while dealing with cases such as: Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Ashdod and Lod - to mention but few. Throughout the seminar I aim to present theoretical and empirical discussion of different categories such as: Development Towns, Jewish-Arab Mixed Cities, Global Cities, with a special reference to the built environment, planning and urban design in Israel. The seminar will be developed along thematic subjects (such as migration, mobility, housing, ethnicity, religion) rather than as a historical narrative. Moreover, the course will present and conceptually discuss visual representations of cities and urban spaces in Israel. Following the seminar, each student will write a short essay (2500 words) on a subject s\he will be interested.
