847170 SE/3 Environments

winter semester 2014/2015 | Last update: 06.04.2015 Place course on memo list
SE 3

This seminar will focus on spatial/locational and critical aspects of environments. Participants are expected to work in various media and to develop new approaches in the broader context of architecture.

An open attitude both in a theoretical and practical context is expected towards writings, artistic and curatorial production, film and new media. All work will be based on research (reading assignments, reports) but result in direct translation (production, installation). A typical result of this seminar is a direct implementation based on clear production directions.

Workshop: Dec 2—6 2013, full attendance required.

The course language is English.

Seeking to highlight a currently most actual phenomenon of our cultural landscapes this seminar will touch on issues of entropy, decay and devaluation in the context of the humanities, new geographies, cultural and urban studies. Environments are, among other notions, an art form which first surfaced in the late mid 20th century. In this context environments combine an action or installation with a space, surrounding or location. The course will focus on the locational and critical aspects of environments.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
