The goal of this course is to familiarise students whose native language is not English with basic legal terminology. The course will cover legal terminology regarding legal education, legal professions, sources of law, civil and criminal courts and procedure. When needed, the legal system of England and Wales as well as European Law shall serve as examples. Please be aware that the course will be accompanied by online moduls. Please make sure you have a valid e-mail account and adequate internet access. You will have to download pictures and audio files.

Participants will be asked to read assigned texts (cases, excerpts from textbooks etc.) for each class. Reading assignments will be available online in advance. It is essential to do the reading beforehand as well as to fulfill several other tasks such as online tests from home.

The final grade shall be determined on the basis of oral participation, homework and a written exam at the end of the semester.
