The aim of the proseminar is to make students aware of American self-perceptions and how these are perceived from an outside viewpoint (outside perception). In the process students should improve their language skills to express these intercultural perceptions in English and German.

In this proseminar we will look at America from two sides: on the one hand, the inside perception of how Americans see their country with its essential and defining values at home and America's role in the world; on the other hand, the outside perception of how Europeans have been looking at "America" (which includes quite a bit of anti-Americanism).

Finding relevant information/material (of sufficient credibility); working comparatively/contrastively with American and German texts on the same topic; developing debating skills within the peer group; making a short effective presentation; writing a research paper;
