Literary topics: What is a novel? History and theory of a genre

Acquiring deeper knowledge of the literature system and its protagonists in historical and systematic perspective, the literary aesthetics and genus teaching by examples.
Differently than epic and drama is the novel a comparatively young genre: In Germany, one speaks of "Romans” only since the 17th century, and only in the 18th century the plural "Romane" asserts itself. The lecture outlines important developments of this multifaceted genre in German literature from the early 18th century until the present.
