Knowledge of central concepts of the theory of metaphor and phraseology; development of the competence to analyze metaphors and phraseologisms critically. 

 

Definition of metaphor and phraseologism; cognitive theory of metaphor according to Zoltan Kövecses (source and target domains of metaphors, nonverbal metaphors, history of the theory of metaphor, selective character of metaphorical mappings, systems of metaphors, universality of metaphors); phraseology according to Harald Burger (typology of phraseologisms, semantics of phraseologisms, diachrony of phraseologisms, text/discourse and phraseologisms).

Teacher-centred instruction, interrupted by joint analyses of relevant texts; visualization with the help of PowerPoint.
